SANGEAN PR-D3L

This radio receives stations in Medium Waves, Long Waves and FM.
Positive aspects: It offers Long Waves and receives the stations, in this band, exceptionally well. It is very sensitive in Medium Waves, better than the excellent, similar sized, Roadstar TRA-2350P. With some help from the Eton AN-200 loop antenna, I received in Marathon area, Greece,  many Middle East and North African stations, during daytime.
In the following photo, a moment when a very good reception was achieved, of a 20 KW Israeli station, situated 1260 Km away from the receiving post, at midday .
Negative aspects: Not good in FM. Compared to Roadstar, it’s a shame. A reason could be the short length of the telescopic antenna. In AM does not offer 1 KHz tuning step, only 9 KHz, so one looses the advantage of the extra Medium Wave coverage up to 1710 KHz. Sound is good, only according to the sticker on the radio. Although the speaker’s size is o.k. the result is weak. The bass and tremble knobs help a little. A continuous hiss, that is present even when the volume control is off, makes things worst. Especially during nighttime, with low volume settings, this hiss noise is irritating. Finally, it looks ugly.
Hymettus Mountain hosts antenna installations for television and FM, targeting the audience of Athens. Sangean PR-D3L, has no problem to catch FM programs, when it is located that closed.
